They battle wolves, meet talking animals, encounter an evil white witch and meet a magnificent lion named Aslan. Will this be the end of their journey to Narnia or will they stay? Alternate Versions An extended cut of the movie was released on DVD for a limited time in December 2006.
The extended edition included the following scenes: • 1.The new Disney logo at the beginning of the film. More parents and children crying at the train station. Also more interaction between the kids and Mrs. A scene on the train with Lucy and her toy dog. A new shot of the wardrobe before the cricket scene. More of the Pevensies running from Mrs. Extra shots of the Pevensies exploring Narnia for the first time.
More of the Pevensies following Mr. Beaver to his home. Lucy finding a fish frozen in the ice around the Beaver's dam. More of Edmund crossing the Witch's courtyard.
Some added shots of the wolves searching the dam. Several shots of the snow melting and the Pevensies and the Beavers walking through Narnia as it transforms into spring. A few new shots of Susan practicing archery. As the gryphons attack the Witch's troops with rocks, a group of bat-like creatures rush into the air and attack them. A few extra shots of the two armies colliding.
As the phoenix attempts to lay down it's fire, a bat-creature attacks it. Peter kills the bat-creature with a spear. Some shots of creatures burning in the fire laid down by the phoenix. More of Orieus and Otmin fighting. Some more of the gryphons attacking the Witch. As Edmund rushes to Peter's aid, he pushes Ginarrbrik over a cliff.
I was fortunate enough to attend an advanced screening and was magnificently surprised. The film was beautifully made. The acting/voices were all wonderful, including the young talent. I think all ages will be entertained. The story contains important lessons for children, but also relevant reminders for adults.
I also think attempts to compare the film to Lord of the Rings and/or Harry Potter would be unfortunate for all parties. They are each uniquely wonderful. Make sure you see this! By the way, make sure you stay through the end credits to hear a beautiful song Alanis Morisette wrote especially for the film.
