'Well I'm thinking of getting the iPhone 7' 'Oh, can I ask you why you're interested in that phone?'
'Well I'm a photographer and with the new water resistant case and improved camera it would be a great fit and I'd love to get some pictures under water' 'The iPhone 7 can take some splash, but DO NOT take it under water. The Samsung phones are the ONLY phones that are truly water-proof.' 'Well I was just over at the apple store and they said I would be fine taking it in to a pool for pictures.' 'Well they're wrong.
(repeats thats Samsung phones are the only phones capable of going under water)' 'Are you sure.? I then went home and did the research I had already done before to confirm what I already thought - the iPhone 7 CAN go under water (with certain time/distance limitations yadayada). So what gives? Was the Verizon salesman misinformed or was he paid to misinform me? Yes, phone salespeople are literally bribed to sell you other phones.

The industry term for this is a 'spiff.' I had a brief stint at an AT&T store back before Blackberry died and in addition to the normal commission (of which the iPhone has the lowest of any phone, due to low margins for the retail store), Blackberry would pay a ~$30 spiff for selling their new phone. I couldn't sell any. Samsung was giving around $20, if I recall correctly, for selling whatever the newest Galaxy S was at the time. Just to be clear, a sales associate can easily make ten times as much money by selling you something without an Apple logo on it, and this absolutely motivates them to push stuff on you.
